Carragher shares 'ridiculous' Liverpool transfer theory as major 'problem' identified

Jamie Carragher has theorised why Liverpool failed to sign any players this summer and the pundit has also identified a major problem for the Reds.

With the summer transfer window set to close next week, Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to make any signings so far.

It's no secret that they've been trying to sign a new defensive midfielder, but they failed to lure Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to Anfield.

Despite Zubimendi's absence, Arne Slot stressed that the lack of transfer activity had not weakened his team.

“If we don't get stronger, we become weaker? I don't understand that,” Slot told reporters.

“It is not always true that the arrival of new players strengthens a team.”

“Jürgen left the team in a good position. I have said many times that our team is really strong and that it is not easy to find players who can strengthen us.

“Zubimendi was there (to strengthen the squad) but unfortunately he decided not to come.”

Liverpool are often quite precise in the transfer market and don't tend to panic buy, although that is why they are unable to land their top targets.

Carragher believes Liverpool could save funds in order to focus on the upcoming summer transfer window.

“In the past, under Jurgen Klopp, they always worked 12 months ahead. They weren't always thinking about this window, but the next one,” Carragher said on Twitter. Air sports.

Liverpool also know that players like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in the final year of their contracts.

Carragher described it as a “problem” but he does not think his former club will panic in the final days of the window.

“So they arrived late, they had to call a manager. They obviously have this problem in terms of contracts that they will have to sort out before Christmas.

“But the reason why Liverpool, I don't think, are not buying players at the moment is that they are probably already thinking about next summer.

“It might sound ridiculous, but Liverpool, over the last few years – or even more than that, five to ten years – have not panicked in the transfer market and I like that about Liverpool.

“But do they need reinforcements in certain positions? Yes.”

Liverpool still have time to sign a few reinforcements before the transfer window closes, with the club still considering defensive and midfield options.

Rennes full-back Adrien Truffert has been identified as a potential long-term replacement for Andy Robertson and Matheus Nunes of Manchester City This is supposedly someone the club has looked into.
