Missing Kenner man found dead in canal, police say

KENNER, La. (WVUE) – A 61-year-old man reported missing by his family this weekend was found dead in a drainage canal early Sunday (Aug. 25), Kenner Police said.

Detectives are investigating the death of 61-year-old Efrain Miranda, “but do not suspect foul play,” the department said in a statement. Kenner Police said more information will be provided on Miranda's death after an autopsy is completed.

Family members reported Miranda missing on Saturday, saying he was last seen at his University City subdivision residence Friday around 11:30 p.m.

Police at the time said Miranda was not known to have mental health issues, but did suffer from a medical condition affecting his kidneys.

Kenner Police spokesman Capt. Michael Cunningham said Miranda's body was found shortly after midnight on Sunday morning in a drainage canal that runs along the 3200 block of Northwestern Street in Kenner.
