Nigerian Brothers Sentenced in Federal Court for Role in International Sextortion Ring Involving Marquette Teen

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The two Nigerian brothers charged in the sextortion case that left Marquette teen Jordan DeMay dead were sentenced to federal prison Thursday at the Marquette Federal Courthouse.

Samuel Ogoshi and Samson Ogoshi, both of Lagos, Nigeria, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker. Audio of the hearing was available via Zoom and TV6’s Elizabeth Peterson was in court.

Samuel Ogoshi's sentencing hearing began at 10 a.m. His sentence – 210 months (17.5 years) in federal prison – was handed down at 11:45 a.m.

After the conclusion of this hearing, the court took a short break and then began the sentencing hearing of Samson Ogoshi at 12:15 p.m.

After additional remarks from DeMay's mother and father, Samson Ogoshi was sentenced to 1:02 p.m. He was also sentenced to 210 months (17.5 years) in federal prison.

In April, both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sexually exploit minors. Sextortion, or sexual extortion, is the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.

Sentencing remarks will be broadcast live here shortly after the final hearing concludes.

A federal judge is expected to hand down sentences Thursday morning to two Nigerian men who pleaded guilty to their roles in the sextortion operation that left Marquette teenager Jordan DeMay dead.

Samuel Ogoshi and Samson Ogoshi, both of Lagos, Nigeria, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sexually exploit minors.

Sextortion or sexual extortion is the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.

U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker is scheduled to hand down their sentences beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday.
