4. Colt Gray was previously investigated for threatening to carry out a school shooting

Barrow County Sheriff Judd Smith called the shooting “purely evil.” A statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Atlanta division said that in May 2023, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received multiple anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and that the threats included photographs of firearms.

The boy, then 13, was interviewed along with his father, who told authorities he had hunting weapons in his home but that his son did not have unsupervised access to them. Colt Gray, who was not named in the affidavit, also denied making the threats and no charges have been filed in the investigation.

“A thorough investigation was conducted,” Jackson Sheriff Janis Mangum said in a statement Wednesday about the investigation. “During the course of that investigation, threats to the gaming sites could not be substantiated.”
