23-year-old man shot dead in Indio; suspect arrested

A 23-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Indio early Saturday, and police arrested a suspect several hours later.

Officers from the Indio Police Department responded to a report of gunshots just after 2:30 am near a home in the 81-600 block of Jennifer Court. They found a man with a gunshot wound in front of a house in the area.

The man, who was later identified by the Riverside County coroner's office as Indio resident Carlos Arriaga, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he died a few hours later.

Detectives identified the suspected shooter as Ruben Molina, a 21-year-old from Indio. Around noon Saturday, detectives found and arrested Molina in the 44-000 block of Avenue 44.

Molina was booked on suspicion of felony murder. He was being held at the county jail in Indio on Sunday on $1 million bail, with an initial court hearing set for Wednesday morning.

Police did not release any information about a possible motive.
