Homicide investigators probe overnight shooting in Midtown: 1 dead, 2 injured

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — The shooting death of a man in Midtown is the latest homicide investigation in Kansas City.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. on August 24. People were gathered outside a business on West 39th Street and Central Street when shots were fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other adults, a man and a woman, were also found with gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

This is the second fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first took place in Kansas City and left one person dead and another in critical condition.

In June, a shooting a block away at West 39th Street and Broadway Boulevard killed Deshaun McKinzy, 29. The neighborhood has been the subject of calls for action from the community to reduce crime and shootings.
