Rocket fired from Gaza falls into sea off Tel Aviv, Israeli military says

A rocket fired from the war-torn Gaza Strip fell into the sea off Tel Aviv, Israel, on Tuesday, the Israeli military said, as Hamas militants announced their first attack on the city in months.

“Recently, an identified projectile from the Gaza Strip fell into the maritime space of central Israel,” the army said in a statement, while an AFP journalist reported hearing an explosion in the city at the same time.

The army added that “simultaneously, an additional projectile that did not cross Israeli territory was identified.”

Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, said it fired two M90 rockets at Tel Aviv, its first attack on the Israeli commercial hub since May.

“The Al-Qassam Brigades bombarded the city of Tel Aviv and its suburbs with two M90 missiles in response to the Zionist massacres against civilians and the deliberate displacement of our people,” the group said in a statement.

The attack comes as Israel is on high alert for an attack by Iran and its proxies, following the assassinations of senior officials from Hamas and Hezbollah, the Lebanese armed group.
