They [India] The US is using water aggression as a weapon against Bangladesh, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (August 25).

“The recent flash floods in Bangladesh, the worst in 15 years, occurred due to India's decision to open its dams without prior notice. As most of the upstream water comes from India, lack of cooperation and coordination in water sharing has led to severe floods in Bangladesh,” he said at a view exchange meeting with journalists in Sylhet organised by the district BNP.

Fakhrul mentioned that protests against India's water aggression had started in Sylhet, led by BNP leader Mr Ilias Ali.

He added that Ilias Ali had been missing since the protests began.

On another note, the BNP chief said, “The caretaker government led by Dr Yunus is leading the country towards stability at a crucial juncture. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina of India is orchestrating a deep conspiracy against the nation, but she will not succeed.”

He added that the interim government needed sufficient time to reform all the country's institutions and ensure fair elections, but that this time should not be indefinite.

In this context, he stressed that the caretaker government headed by Justice Latifur Rahman successfully held fair elections within three months.
