Chesterfield Police Break Up Fights At Chesterfield Fair: Four Arrested

CHESTERFIELD — Two adults and two juveniles are facing charges after authorities said fights broke out Saturday night at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds.

The scuffles occurred around 8:30 p.m., about a half-hour before the fair was scheduled to close, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Caroon said. Police had been told that several youths at the entrance were going to fight, and when officers intervened, several people in the crowd became angry and tried to force their way into the fair.

A minor was arrested at the entrance for assaulting a fair employee.

As police tried to disperse the crowd, several fights broke out in the parking lots.

“Several officers used pepper spray to break up several fights,” Caroon said.

A total of 13 people were treated for injuries, including 12 from pepper spray exposure. One juvenile was taken to hospital for treatment for his pepper spray exposure.

One person was treated for an arm injury.

A 15-year-old was charged with simple assault and a 14-year-old was arrested for assaulting a police officer. Both have been released to their parents' custody, Caroon said.

Klarion Dupree Faulkner, 18, of Richmond, was charged with trespassing, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana by a minor and possession of a firearm on school property. Caroon said the suspect parked on property adjacent to the school and the weapon was in his vehicle.

Eric Edwards Jr., 31, of Henrico County, was charged with attempting to brandish a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and carrying a concealed weapon.

Bail information for the adult suspects was not available.

Caroon said no police officers were injured in the clashes.

An investigation is underway.

So far, fair officials have not commented on the incident.

The fair opened Friday evening and continues until next weekend.
