Kirkland police seek help locating missing 66-year-old man

The Kirkland Police Department (KPD) is asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing vulnerable adult, David Harger, 66, of Kirkland.

KPD said David left his Kirkland residence, located in the Kingsgate neighborhood at North East 144 Pace and 129th Place North East, around 12 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and did not return.

According to Kulture Police, David has brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark red t-shirt, dark knit pants and black Velcro shoes. Police said David was last seen wearing a black pouch around his neck containing necessary medications. David requires constant medical attention. Without it, he is prone to falls, disorientation and/or confusion.

“I feel like he fell and it got cold, he's probably curled up somewhere trying to stay dry, we don't know. He's got dementia so he's in a different world, we don't know where he is,” said Liz Gobbo, a family friend of David.

He knows his name and will respond to “Dave” if called. His medical needs increase the urgency of locating him.

The Kirkland Police Department worked with King County Search and Rescue to try to locate David, which included using an unmanned aerial system and crews combing the area. David does not have access to a car, but may have had access to the King County bus system. David was listed in the Washington State database as a missing person with a “Silver Alert.”

It's now been four days since David went missing, and his family and friends have been gathering at a local Safeway parking lot in Kirkland to hand out flyers in hopes of finding him.

His wife, Loretta Fast, said they hoped to find a sign that would lead them to him.

“What worries me most is that apart from Wednesday, there have been no other leads for the search and rescue and for the police to follow up on, and that's really worrying because where could he be and no one has seen him?” she added.

Loretta said she was grateful for the number of people who came out to help search for her husband and for all the support from the community.

“A lot of people came as a family to look for my husband and it really comforted me and made me realize that it's a big world with a lot of people who care about my husband and that gives me hope,” she said.

Kirkland Police are asking anyone who may have information that could help locate David Harger to contact Kirkland Police at 425-577-5656. If you see David in the community, please contact your local police department or 9-1-1 so police can assist in reuniting with his family.
