TEWKSBURY — An alleged drug deal observed by police on Grove Street led to the seizure of counterfeit Adderall pills and the arrest of a Tewksbury man on charges of trafficking methamphetamine.

Tewksbury police said members of the department's narcotics unit saw a man, later identified as Cameron Joyce, 30, involved in the illicit transaction Thursday outside a home on Grove Street.

Joyce was taken into custody at the scene. During the ensuing investigation, police said they discovered what appeared to be 135 Adderall pills. Subsequent testing revealed that the purported prescription medications were actually counterfeit pills, made to look like Adderall but actually containing methamphetamine, police said.

The counterfeit pills weighed approximately 42 grams.

Police said they also discovered $1,191 in cash during their investigation.

Joyce was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court on charges of trafficking 36 grams or more of methamphetamine, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. The outcome of Joyce's arraignment was not immediately available.
