Two groups clashed in Swindon in June, police say [BBC]

A teenager has pleaded guilty to stabbing a 16-year-old boy during a clash between two groups.

The 17-year-old from Swindon appeared at Swindon Youth Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) as well as attempted GBH against a second teenager and possession of a sharp object.

Wiltshire Police said a fight broke out between two groups of teenagers on June 3 on New Road in the town.

One of them, a 16-year-old boy, received a stab wound to the back that required seven stitches.

Two other teenagers, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Royal Wootton Bassett, have already pleaded guilty to the same three offences.

The 17-year-old from Swindon remains in custody and the 16 and 17-year-olds from Royal Wootton Bassett are on bail.

All three are scheduled to be tried on September 18.

Detective Constable Chris Hemns of Wiltshire Police said: “There can be no place for incidents like this in Wiltshire.”

“The impact of knife crime on our communities cannot be underestimated, and it is a priority for the Police to target those carrying knives.
