Winona man arrested after allegedly stabbing landlord

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) — On Saturday, 23-year-old Mason Maloney was arrested after allegedly stabbing his landlord during an argument.

Winona police officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a Winona home on E 6th St. When officers arrived, they found the victim being loaded into an ambulance.

Officers noted in court documents that they saw a cut along the left side of the victim's chest.

According to a witness who was at the scene at the time of the stabbing, the victim attempted to confront Maloney about an alleged sale of controlled substances that had taken place at the home.

The witness told police that after separating Maloney and the victim, Maloney said, “I stabbed you,” and the victim was covered in blood. According to the witness, Maloney was holding a 4-inch-long pocket knife at the time.

During the victim's interview, officers learned that the victim saw Maloney grab “something sharp” and stab her twice while they were arguing.

Officers then located Maloney and arrested him.

Maloney is currently charged with second-degree assault and appeared in court Monday. He will be back in court Thursday.
