Attempted murder charges in shooting at fraternity near Southern University campus dropped in plea deal

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The man accused of injuring nearly a dozen people attending a fraternity party near the campus of Southern University accepted a plea deal that allows him to avoid trial.

Eleven attempted murder charges have been dismissed as part of the deal.

The court accepted the plea from the accused, Jaicedric Williams, 24, who faced trial on 11 charges of attempted first degree murder in addition to weapons charges.

Williams has been sentenced to 10 years for unlawful possession of a machine gun, 5 years for possession of a stolen firearm, and 2 years for illegal use of a weapon.

The prison time will overlap.

Defense attorneys said part of the sentence was related to guns found in Williams' home that could not be linked to the shooting.

Baton Rouge Police responded to the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity house on Harding Boulevard on October 21, 2022 after a fight broke out between Williams and others.

Police said the fraternity house was packed with people attending a homecoming party at the time.

An officer reportedly saw Williams pull a handgun and fire into a crowd of people during the fight.

Police said 11 people were shot. Nine of those gunshot victims were confirmed to be Southern University students.

None of the victims were critically injured.

US Marshals arrested Williams 2 days later.

Baton Rouge Police were able to identify two people who were present at the party with Williams.

Daryl Stansberry, 29, entered a guilty plea to the reduced charge of criminal conspiracy as part of a plea deal in Feb. of 2024.

He received a suspended 5-year sentence, and was ordered to probation and other classes as part of that deal.

Miles Moss, 26, entered a guilty plea to the reduced charge of accessory after the fact as part of a plea deal in October of 2023.

He received a 30-month prison sentence for that charge.

Court records show that Williams has a history of arrests related to violent incidents that happened prior to the shooting.
