Ofcom dismisses 3,600 complaints about Love Island

Ofcom has rejected more than 3,600 complaints following the latest round of complaints The Island of Love.

The 2024 season of the reality TV show concluded last month, with Josh Oyinsan and Mimii Ngulube crowned champions.

However, throughout the series, Ofcom received a total of 3,645 complaints, mainly about alleged racism and harassment, with half of them relating to the July 24 episode.

In this show, the housemates competed in a viewer vote in which they had to guess which couple would stay together to win.

“We have carefully assessed complaints about this series on a range of issues, including allegations of bullying and racism,” an Ofcom spokesperson said (via BBC News).

“We recognise that emotionally charged or confrontational scenes may upset some viewers. However, in our view, negative behaviour in the villa was not portrayed in a positive light and contestants were seen supporting or apologising to each other.

“We also took into account that the format of this reality show is well established and viewers expect to see ups and downs as relationships and friendships are tested.”

In other words The Island of Love News, former contestant Tommy Fury has denied cheating allegations following his shock split from Molly-Mae Hague last week.

“Tommy is horrified by the false allegations of cheating being circulated in the media and is consulting with his lawyers,” a spokesperson for the star said.

After Molly-Mae announced the split last week, Tommy said: “I am heartbroken to announce that Molly and I have decided to end our relationship. The last five years have given us our beautiful baby girl, Bambi, and I will be forever grateful to Molly for making me a dad. Bambi is our priority. Please respect our privacy and that of our families during this difficult time.”
