Booneville man back in jail on shooting-related charges

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Booneville man who made national headlines after being charged with murder when he was 14 has been arrested again.

This time for a homicide that occurred last week.

Booneville police arrested Jayce Bryson, 21, west of Baldwin.

He is a suspect in a shooting that occurred last week.

According to Police Chief Michael Ramey, gunfire erupted around 6:45 p.m. Monday night at the August Circle Apartments.

Damarion Calvin, 18, of Tupelo, was killed in a vehicle crash. One other person was injured.

In 2017, when he was just 14, West and two other teenagers were charged with capital murder in the shooting death of a 70-year-old Baldwyn man.

He was also arrested just over a year ago in Booneville on statutory rape charges.

In January of this year, he was arrested for possession of marijuana with a firearm.

In his most recent arrest, last week's killing, West was charged with one count of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting into a motor vehicle.

He was not given bail.
