DORAL, Florida – A 54-year-old convicted felon wanted in Sarasota County was awaiting extradition from behind bars Saturday in Miami-Dade County.

According to Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche, a fatal shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday near Dixie Avenue and 24th Street in Sarasota's Newtown neighborhood, and Kevin Holloway fled the scene in a 2011 Nissan Altima.

Hours later, Holloway, who investigators considered armed and dangerous, was arrested in Miami-Dade County. Corrections officers arrested him at 7:55 p.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility near Doral. They held him without bail.

According to state records, the Florida Department of Corrections last released Holloway from prison on Dec. 29, 2021, after he served time for convictions in Sarasota related to cocaine possession and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Following the shooting early Thursday morning in Sarasota, Holloway faces new charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of aggravated assault.

Sarasota detectives asked anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call 941-316-1199 or Sarasota County Crime Stoppers at 941-366-8477.
