Father of Apalachee High School shooting suspect charged with murder

Top line

The father of a 14-year-old boy suspected of killing several students in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder Thursday, one of the most serious charges ever faced by the parent of an alleged mass shooter.

Key facts

The father of the suspected shooter, Colin Gray, was arrested and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child cruelty, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The charges come after Gray told investigators he purchased the gun used in the school shooting as a gift for his son, Colt, in 2023, according to CNN.

Colt was charged as an adult with four counts of murder and is being held at the Gainesville Area Youth Detention Center.

All nine people injured in the shooting, including two teachers and seven students, are expected to make full recoveries, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said at a news conference Thursday evening.
