Electric vehicle fire shuts down northbound lanes of I-25 in Lone Tree and Castle Pines

A fire involving an electric vehicle closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 at Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree Monday afternoon. It also caused a full safety closure south of the scene in the northbound lanes of I-25 at Castle Pines Parkway in Castle Pines.

Fire Rescue Service South of the Metro

According to social media posts from South Metro Fire, crews were responding to what was determined to be a single-vehicle crash that led to a fire that engulfed the vehicle.

People involved were treated by first responders, but it is unclear whether any serious injuries were caused by the crash or the fire. It is not yet known what type of electric vehicle was involved.

Crews on scene had at least one northbound lane open at Ridgegate to allow traffic to flow away from the crash in Lone Tree. But the Douglas County Sheriff's Office maintained a full closure of the northbound lanes south of the crash for safety while crews worked the scene.

There was no estimated time for the northbound lanes to be cleared at the crash in Lone Tree or the roadblock in Castle Pines. Some southbound lanes of I-25 were initially closed near the crash, but were cleared while crews were on scene.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.
