Man fatally stabbed in New Bedford after domestic dispute

A man has been charged with murder after an argument between family members in New Bedford allegedly led to a fatal stabbing Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Juan Padilla-Santana, 42, of Puerto Rico, was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Omil Padilla-Corsino, 23, according to a statement released by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Padilla-Santana is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in New Bedford on Monday. It was unclear Sunday whether he had retained an attorney to represent him.

On Saturday afternoon, New Bedford police were called to an apartment building at 68 South St., where they found Padilla-Corsino suffering from life-threatening stab wounds, the release said. Padilla-Corsino was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State police and New Bedford police investigators identified Padilla-Santana, a relative of the victim, as the alleged attacker, prosecutors said. An investigation revealed the stabbing occurred following an argument between family members inside the apartment building, the statement said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
