What We Know About the Alleged 'Assassination Attempt' on Trump in Florida – NBC Bay Area

Former President Donald Trump was the target of “what appears to be an assassination attempt” at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, according to the FBI.

The incident comes just nine weeks after the Republican presidential candidate survived another assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

U.S. Secret Service agents noticed the barrel of an AK-style rifle sticking out of the bushes along the course. An agent fired at the shooter, and the suspect dropped his rifle. The suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, fled in an SUV before being taken into custody in a neighboring county, county Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.

“Luckily, we were able to locate a witness who told us he saw the guy come out of the bushes, and we were then able to get his license plate and put a license plate on the vehicle,” Bradshaw said.

Officials who identified the suspect spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

The former president said he was safe and sound.

Sources told NBC News that the incident would not affect Trump's campaign schedule this week.
