FBI confirms it is investigating another assassination attempt against Trump after golf club shooting

The FBI said it is investigating an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump after shots were fired at the Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

“The FBI has responded to a call in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” the FBI said in a statement.

The Secret Service also announced an investigation shortly after shots were fired on the golf course.

“The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former president is safe,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told X.

Several shots were fired towards the golf club while the former president was playing golf.

Trump sent a message around 4 p.m. saying: “There have been shots fired in my neighborhood, but before the rumors start getting out of hand, I first wanted you to hear this: I AM SAFE AND HEALTHY. Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER surrender!”

The White House also released a statement after the incident, saying: “The President and Vice President have been briefed on the security incident at Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was playing golf. They are relieved to know that he is safe and well. They will be regularly briefed by their team.”

“I have been made aware of reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his Florida property, and I am pleased he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement.

Martin County said it has arrested one person in connection with the crime. There was a lone driver in the car they stopped on I-95 and he was unarmed, according to the Martin County Sheriff.

Two police sources told the Associated Press that an AK-type firearm was recovered near the golf course.

The shootings follow a previous assassination attempt in July, when a bullet grazed Trump in the ear at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
