Local Teen Makes History at Pikes Peak

COLORADO SPRING — Reed Small, a 19-year-old with spina bifida, isn't letting his condition stop him. This weekend, he and more than 40 volunteers helped him reach his goal of 4,400 meters.

He shares with me his emotions before his trip.

“I'm in disbelief, I've never been helped this much before,” he said.

After successfully reaching the summit, Reed had a message for those who doubt the abilities of wheelchair users.

“They can do it, but not in the same way as others.”

The Lockwood Foundation is a community organization that creates opportunities for people with mobility issues and trail access with members of the local community.

Today… it helped Reed have his best adventure yet.

He completed his first trip today. But for Reed, this is just the beginning, as he and his family hope he can summit more mountains.

Watch his full journey above.
