Amazon Responds to Driver Arrested in Miami-Dade Hit-and-Run Crash That Injured Baby, Mother

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – Amazon has responded to the recent arrest of one of its drivers for a hit-and-run that injured a baby and his mother in the Ives Estates neighborhood of Miami-Dade County.

According to the police arrest report in the case, Sarahy Parra-Ovalles was driving a 2022 Hyundai and wearing an Amazon vest Thursday morning when she entered the Aventura Isles Estates community.

Parra-Ovalles, 45, then punched a mother who was pushing a stroller with her 4-month-old son and walking a dog at the corner of Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue. Videos and witness testimony are evidence in the case, police said.

“This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with the family. We are reviewing the matter and will support law enforcement in their investigation,” Amazon spokesman Steve Kelly wrote in a statement sent to Local 10 News Saturday night. “The driver in question no longer delivers on behalf of Amazon.”

According to the arrest report, Parra-Ovalles showed his driver's license to a security guard who registered his presence at the door at Northeast 199 Street and Third Court.

After the hit-and-run crash, a witness reported that Parra-Ovalles got out of the SUV, ran to the mother to help her pick up the stroller and baby — and drove off.

A local nurse provided first aid before Miami-Dade firefighters arrived and discovered the baby had suffered a laceration to his forehead. His mother suffered a head injury and is at Memorial Regional Hospital, police said.

Miami-Dade police arrested Parra-Ovalles Friday and she appeared in court Saturday to face two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury. Her bail was set at $7,500.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
