Mexican found guilty of drug trafficking and gun charges

MEXICO, Missouri (KMIZ)

A jury on Monday convicted a Mexico, Missouri, man of drug trafficking and firearms charges.

According to a news release from the Audrain County Prosecutor, a jury found Larry Karhoff, 53, guilty of two counts of first-degree drug trafficking, possession of a firearm, possession of drugs, unlawful use of a weapon and driving on a suspended license.

Prosecutors charged Karhoff after a traffic stop in February 2022. A police officer arrested Karhoff for driving with a revoked license. During a search of Karhoff, the officer found methamphetamine, fentanyl, alprazolam and hydrocodone.

Investigators also said Karhoff had a handgun. Because of his prior convictions, Karhoff was not allowed to own a firearm.

The jury deliberated for about two hours after the day-long trial.

“The jury was very attentive to the evidence and listened carefully to the facts throughout this trial,” said Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger. “I commend them for their focus, perseverance and dedication to a just outcome. This jury sent a powerful message to this community: drug offenders will be brought to justice, illegal firearms will be stopped and there will be consequences for actions.”

A sentencing hearing has been set for October 7.
