Tri-State Food Bank Nearly Empty, Needs Donations

DAYTON, Ky. (WXIX) — The food pantry at Cornerstone Christian Church is running out of food.

Jennifer Poe, who runs the pantry, said the pantry walls are usually 5 feet wide with food. Now they are only 2 feet wide. She said that is jeopardizing their ability to feed families because they don't have food.

“Right now we can only offer cereal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce and canned corn,” Poe said.

The pantry serves up to 50 families a week. She said it needs more monetary donations because of the number of families it serves.

“We only get $50 to $100 a month,” Poe said. “We get donations through our food bank and our free store, but we don’t have anyone donating money, so we can’t buy much.”

Poe said monetary donations would help the pantry purchase vegetables and other foods to prepare truly complete meals.

“Right now, we need non-perishable items,” Poe said. “It’s more boxed food items, like boxed cereal. We need cereal, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, pancake mix and syrup.”

The food bank began operating in November 2023. Poe said it's stressful work feeding the community.

“It’s a 24-hour job,” Poe says. “As soon as I wake up, I’m wondering what I’m going to get and where I’m going to get it.”

Monetary donations can be made by calling the church at 859-431-7711 or by calling Poe at 859-823-9073.
