Leadville shooting over Labor Day weekend leaves one dead, one injured

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that occurred in Leadville over Labor Day weekend.

Early Saturday morning, Aug. 31, Leadville police were called to a home in the 100 block of East Ninth Street in Leadville, according to a news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office and Leadville Police Department said in a joint statement that the local dispatch center began receiving multiple 911 calls just before midnight on Aug. 30 reporting that two Leadville residents had been shot.



Upon arrival, law enforcement found a man and a woman both suffering from gunshot wounds, according to news releases. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man was transported to a medical facility, according to news releases. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the man and woman knew each other and resided at the home where the shooting occurred.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Leadville Police Department, with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney's Office, are investigating the shooting.



Colorado Bureau of Investigation Rob Low declined to provide an update on the case Wednesday, Sept. 4. Low did not respond to questions from Summit Daily News about the condition of the man who was shot or whether charges are pending in the case.
