La Liga 2024-25: Flick congratulates Yamal, Barça's exceptional teenager, after his double against Girona

Manager Hansi Flick has heaped praise on Barcelona's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal after the Spain international scored twice to help the La Liga leaders secure a 4-1 win at Girona on Sunday, their fifth consecutive victory to start the season.

Yamal, who caught the eye by helping Spain win their fourth European Championship title in July, scored twice in the first half before Dani Olmo and Pedri secured victory as Flick's side maintained their unbeaten start to the league season.

“I'm very happy with Lamine's two goals, he's very young but he's really incredible, he makes the difference at such a young age,” Flick told Movistar Plus.

“His squad is essential for us, not only because of his quality, but also because he presses very well high up the pitch. He combines talent and pressure and that's huge for us. He's exceptional.”

“It was a difficult match, Girona played well but we also started very well and we deserved to win.”

Hansi Flick's FC Barcelona lead the La Liga standings with 15 points, four ahead of Real Madrid and Villarreal. Girona, last year's surprise, are seventh with seven points.

Barca got their revenge after their two defeats against Girona last season, both by 4-2. The Catalans dominated the game and their high pressing was too much for the home side to handle.

Barca will now hope to continue their domestic form in the Champions League, where they face Monaco on Thursday.

“We have trained very hard for this and we have to continue. This week we have prepared well, but we do it in every game we play because we always want to win, we are in a good period and we cannot stop,” Flick said.

“It won't be easy against Monaco but we're taking the games one by one and we're really excited, we're all looking forward to it.”
