Maharashtra minister sounds alarm over disappearance of CCTV footage in Badlapur school assault case

Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena chief Deepak Kesarkar has expressed concern over the disappearance of CCTV footage from the Badlapur school where two minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted. “The CCTV footage of the last 15 days has gone missing from the school. It is essential to investigate the reasons and motives behind this disappearance,” Kesarkar said.

Kesarkar suggested integrating panic buttons in schools and residences to enhance security. “Just like CCTVs, panic buttons can also be installed. This is an advanced technology for immediate alerts,” he said at a press conference in Mumbai.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Mumbai Region, a multi-departmental investigation team investigated the incident. “The police will determine the sections applicable to the cases. Those found guilty of negligence will be identified as co-accused and will have to face consequences,” the Maharashtra Education Minister stressed. Reports from the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Education Ministry have been submitted to the Kesarkar.

The Badlapur Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a complaint against the school authorities under Section 19 of the POCSO Act for not reporting the incident to the police. The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls at the school sparked widespread outrage, leading to the arrest of a school invigilator on August 17.
