San Diego man dies after fall on Black's Beach in La Jolla

Authorities on Wednesday publicly identified a 42-year-old man who suffered a fatal fall this week on a cliffside trail above Black's Beach.

Jose Santoyo, of San Diego, apparently lost his footing while walking down the cliff off Torrey Pines Scenic Drive with friends Tuesday afternoon, according to the medical examiner's office.

Santoyo fell about 10 feet (3 meters) onto a cliff below, the agency reported.

His companions called 911 and attempted to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived, who took over the life-saving efforts before pronouncing Santoyo dead at the scene around 3:45 p.m., the medical examiner reported.
