Man wearing electronic tag arrested for attempted kidnapping at Orlando Walmart

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police arrested a man wearing an electronic bracelet Monday after he allegedly tried to kidnap a woman in the parking lot of a Walmart on South Goldenrod Road, authorities said.

Orlando Police Department officers responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. for reports of an armed robbery and attempted kidnapping. The suspect, identified as Juan Marcos Perez, 54, allegedly approached the woman as he paced the parking lot, police said. He then allegedly pulled out a knife and held it to the woman's throat before forcing her into the trunk of his car.

According to a sworn statement obtained by local media, the victim tried to resist the attack. Perez allegedly threatened her, saying: “If you continue, I'm going to slit your throat.”

A witness intervened, noticing the victim's legs were “flailing around outside the trunk” as Perez tried to push her inside, according to the affidavit. The witness stopped his car and got out to help, prompting Perez to flee the scene.

Perez was later identified as a suspect after police learned he was a registered sex offender on parole for a previous kidnapping conviction. His probation officer confirmed Perez's identity from surveillance footage and noted he was wearing a GPS ankle bracelet at the time of the incident. Data from the bracelet helped locate Perez at the Walmart during the attempted kidnapping and armed robbery.

Perez was taken into custody and is expected to be charged in connection with the incident.
