Maryland Police Arrest Pop-Up Car Rally Organizer, Guns Found

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Maryland State Police arrested Adin Tyrone Carr, 20, of District Heights, following a months-long investigation into illegal street displays and takeovers in Prince George's County, authorities said Wednesday. During the arrest, law enforcement discovered 14 firearms at two residences in Rockville and District Heights.

The investigation, led by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force, began in June 2024 after police officers observed Carr in possession of a firearm during one of the street demonstrations. According to police, Carr was seen holding an AR-style pistol while leaning out the window of a vehicle.

As a minor, Carr was prohibited by law from owning firearms, prompting further investigation in conjunction with the Maryland Attorney General's Office.

On September 4, the Maryland Car Rally Task Force, in conjunction with multiple law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants at both residences. The operation resulted in the discovery of eight handguns and six long guns. Carr was located at the District Heights residence and arrested at the scene. An additional firearm was found on Carr at the time of his arrest.

Carr was charged with several firearms-related offenses, including possession of a handgun on a person, possession of a handgun in a vehicle and unlawful possession of a regulated firearm by a minor.

Further charges are pending as investigators continue consultations with the attorney general's office.

The Maryland Car Rally Task Force is a multi-agency, state and local law enforcement effort that has been instrumental in combating illegal driving in Prince George’s County and other areas. Efforts remain focused on reducing the public safety risks posed by these events.

  • Man wearing electronic tag arrested for attempted kidnapping at Orlando Walmart

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police arrested a man wearing an electronic bracelet Monday after he allegedly tried to kidnap a woman in the parking lot of a Walmart on South Goldenrod Road, authorities said.

Orlando Police Department officers responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. for reports of an armed robbery and attempted kidnapping. The suspect, identified as Juan Marcos Perez, 54, allegedly approached the woman as he paced the parking lot, police said. He then allegedly pulled out a knife and held it to the woman's throat before forcing her into the trunk of his car.

According to a sworn statement obtained by local media, the victim tried to resist the attack. Perez allegedly threatened her, saying: “If you continue, I'm going to slit your throat.”

A witness intervened, noticing the victim's legs were “flailing around outside the trunk” as Perez tried to push her inside, according to the affidavit. The witness stopped his car and got out to help, prompting Perez to flee the scene.

Perez was later identified as a suspect after police learned he was a registered sex offender on parole for a previous kidnapping conviction. His probation officer confirmed Perez's identity from surveillance footage and noted he was wearing a GPS ankle bracelet at the time of the incident. Data from the bracelet helped locate Perez at the Walmart during the attempted kidnapping and armed robbery.

Perez was taken into custody and is expected to be charged in connection with the incident.
