Minu Muneer files sexual abuse complaints against Malayalam actors, other victims also come forward – The Week

Actress Minu Muneer, who on Monday alleged that she was sexually harassed by several actors, on Tuesday filed a complaint against seven people, including Jayasurya, Mukesh, Edavela Babu and Maniyanpilla Raju.

The #MeToo allegations have rocked the Malayalam film industry after the Hema Committee report came out. More and more women have come forward to report sexual assault and harassment. This prompted the Kerala government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday. Minu filed the complaint through email after speaking to SP G. Poonkuzhali, Onmanorama reported.

Meanwhile, actress Gayathri Varsh has backed Minu's allegations against Maniyan Pilla Raju, saying that the accuser had confided in her how the male actor had knocked on her door during the shooting of Da Thadiya.

The seven-member SIT team is headed by Deputy Director General of Crime Branch H. Venkatesh. Earlier, Revathy Sampath had said she had no intention of filing a complaint against Siddique, whom she accused of sexually assaulting her and locking her in a hotel room in 2016. However, she later said she would reconsider her decision if the government guaranteed her justice. Siddique quit as general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Film Artists (AMMA) following the allegations.

Director Ranjith had resigned as the president of the National Film Academy after Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra alleged that he had touched her without her consent. Another filmmaker, Thulasidas, has been accused of sexual harassment by actresses Geetha Vijayan and Sridevika. It has not been confirmed whether they will file an official complaint.

A young artist who accused AMMA acting general secretary and actor Baburaj of sexual assault is expected to file a complaint with the police, Onmanorama reports.
