Teenager killed in collision in Dongal identified

Two Derry youths killed and seriously injured in a double tragedy were cousins ​​and had been out driving on a Saturday night, it has emerged.

The 16-year-old killed has been identified locally as Kian Dawson, a pupil at St Columb's College, in the Carnhill area of ​​the city.

The accident happened near Quigley's Point, on the main road from Carndonagh to Inishowen, County Donegal. The weather conditions were reportedly very poor at the time.

A Garda spokesman said the single-vehicle collision happened in Cross shortly after 11pm on Saturday. Kian, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. His cousin, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and was in a critical condition.

This death brings to 124 the number of people killed on the roads of the Republic since the beginning of the year.
