Myerscough College to close Plant World garden centre and tearoom

A statement from the college said: “As a business we need to ensure that we remain sustainable and that our operations meet the needs of both the college and students.

“Post-Covid, and with the current cost of living crisis, escalating utility costs and maintenance costs, in addition to operating in an increasingly competitive market, Plant World has experienced significant commercial challenges in remaining financially viable, as part of the wider operations of the college.

“It is with this in mind that we have had to make the very difficult decision to close the establishment. The Garden House Tea Rooms will also close on the same day.

“We will be bringing in specialist support to protect and preserve our plant collections and research facilities at the centre, moving many tropical plants and specimens to our new energy-efficient greenhouses.

“We would like to thank our amazing team at Plant World who work incredibly hard every day to keep the centre running and provide a high quality customer service to everyone who walks through the doors.

“The closure of Plant World is a purely commercial decision and will have no impact on students’ horticulture programmes. As we introduce new T-level qualifications to our curriculum, the centre will continue to be used for students’ practical sessions, and the qualifications and their overall experience will not be affected.”

A clearance sale has started with 75% off all remaining plants and 50% off all garden accessories.
