Kuwait dismantles drug trafficking network, seizes 60 kg of narcotics

The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that it had dismantled an international drug trafficking network, seizing 60 kilograms of marijuana and hashish with an estimated street value of 750,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($2.45 million). The operation, carried out by the international control division of the General Directorate of Drug Control, involved the smuggling of drugs from a European country into Kuwait via Kuwait International Airport.

According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice, the network consisted of five individuals, including two employees of the Kuwait General Administration of Customs. These customs officers allegedly abused their position to participate in drug trafficking. The five suspects were handed over to the Narcotics Prosecution Bureau, where they will face legal proceedings.

This operation is part of the efforts of the criminal security sector to combat drug trafficking and prevent the entry of narcotics into Kuwait. The General Counter-Narcotics Department, particularly its International Counter-Narcotics Department, played a vital role in the success of this operation. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to bringing to justice anyone who threatens the security and stability of Kuwait, stressing that no one is above the law.

The ministry also warned that future smuggling attempts will be treated with the same level of vigilance and determination to protect the country and its citizens from the dangers of drugs.
