FBI Identifies Suspect in Investigation of Rally Shooting Believed to Be an Attempted Assassination

FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek said investigators are “close” to confirming the identity of the suspect in Saturday's “assassination attempt” on former President Donald Trump, but they do not yet have “an identified motive.”

“At this time, we are not yet able to identify the shooter,” Rojeck said. “We are close to identifying him and as soon as we are 100% sure of the identity of this individual, we will inform the press.”

He added that it was “checking biometric data… trying to run his DNA.” Rojek confirmed that the alleged shooter was not carrying any identification papers.

However, it may take more time to obtain information on the shooter's motive.

“We do not currently have an identified motive, but our investigators are working tirelessly to try to identify what that motive was,” Rojeck said.

Asked whether the shooter was a “lone wolf,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said, “We have a shooter tentatively identified, but we're not stopping there. It's going to be some time before we can conclusively answer that question.”

Bivens also confirmed that in addition to the alleged shooter, who was killed at the scene, an adult male was killed and two other adult males were “seriously injured.” Bivens declined to identify the victims because extended family members were still being notified.

Pressed repeatedly for more details, Rojek said that “there will be a long investigation to determine exactly what happened and how the individual was able to access this location, what type of weapon he had – all of this is really days, weeks and months of investigation.”

“But how surprised are you that he was able to fire four or five shots?” one reporter asked.

“It's surprising,” Rojek said.
