Chicago Democratic Councilman Slams DNC, Says He Can't Commit to Supporting Kamala Harris

Vice President Harris is a do-nothing presidential candidate and a “failure” as border czar, according to a Chicago Democrat who told the Post he wasn’t sure he would vote for her in November.

Hours before Harris delivered her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention, Alderman Raymond Lopez struggled to list the vice president's accomplishments so far in the White House.

“What about the last three and a half years, when 10 million people manipulated our asylum process to get into this country?” asked Lopez, 46, who represents the crime-ridden South Side.

“She came to this city many times… She never visited a single shelter in the city. She never brought any money to help the city of Chicago make up for the losses. [migrant] “We have never once addressed the question of how we are going to process these asylum claims more quickly,” he said.

“I have yet to hear anything from our presumptive nominee that addresses my communities or concerns. And I, for one, am not being taken for granted.

“I want her to explain to me how she plans to deal with immigration,” Lopez said. “You can’t tell me here in this room that democracy is at stake while you ignore the sovereignty of our nation.”

Like New York, Chicago has been overwhelmed by illegal migrants crossing the porous U.S. border with Mexico. More than 38,000 have landed in the Windy City since 2022, and taxpayers have been on the hook for more than $300 million in migration-related expenses.

Lopez, a lifelong Democrat who voted for Hillary Clinton and President Biden, also criticized Vice President Harris' communist call for price controls, which critics called “Kamunism” after the Post's front-page story.

“It’s crazy to do this outside of an emergency,” Lopez said. “At what point do we stop considering that everything that’s a human right is a right that we’re trying to control? It’s a very slippery slope, and I don’t think this policy has been fully thought out, fully developed,” he said.

Lopez also blasted the convention, calling it a “beauty pageant of hypocrisy” and said the Democratic Party had lost its way on several fundamental issues.

“I don’t want to hear about how we make love and joy possible, and there’s so much pain in our communities because of all the violence that’s going unchecked and unaddressed by many Democrat leaders who are still afraid of the Black Lives Matter movement,” he said.

“The Democratic Party I grew up in was able to hold people accountable and help break those cycles. That’s not what we do today. We find ways to blame everyone except the people who commit crimes,” he added.

“There are a lot of crazy people here.”
