Two sisters arrested after shooting man in Columbia, police say. Read more

Two sisters have been arrested after recently shooting a man, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Jamila Toatley, 32, and Leona Toatley, 33, have both been charged with criminal conspiracy, police said.

On Aug. 18, the sisters “recklessly” shot a man at 100 Ripplemeyer Avenue, police said. It’s in the area between Two Notch Road and Farrow Road, about 2 miles from Columbia College.

Police said the man was not injured and no injuries were reported.

No information was available about the motive for the shooting, or whether the sisters knew the man before the shooting.

On Aug. 22, the sisters were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where each was ordered to post $20,000 bail, police said. Richland County court records show that Jamila Toatley posted bail on Aug. 23, while Leona Toatley remains behind bars, according to jail records.

The two sisters are due in court again on Oct. 25, according to court documents.

More arrests in connection with the shooting are expected, police said.

According to court documents, Jamila Totaley was out on bail when the shooting occurred. On June 10, she was arrested on a charge of battery by mob, a charge that is pending, according to court documents. She posted $5,000 bail on June 11 in that case, according to court documents.
